5G or 5th Generation is the next generation mobile internet service and all the major UK operators including EE, Vodafone, Three and O2 have been rolling out in many cities and big towns across the UK. Popular locations like sports venues, entertainment and business areas will get 5G in the initial phase of roll out.
The new service promises to offer ultra fast download speeds (100Mbps+), wider coverage, more reliable connectivity and minimum lag.
Compared to 4G which can deliver average download speed of 35Mbps, 5G can offer average speed of up to 200Mbps and top speed of 1Gbps.
You can stream 4K videos, play multi-player games or download HD movies in a few minutes.
EE was the first operator to launch 5G in the UK. Its 5G service was launched in London, Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff, Manchester and Birmingham on 30th May 2019. Currently, EE has rolled out its 5G in 50+ cities and towns across the UK

EE has also made 5G available in bpopular football venues like Belfast’s Kingspan Stadium, London Euston Station, Cardiff Central station and Glasgow’s Bath Street .
By March 2020, EE will complete 5G upgrade in 70 cities and big towns.
EE has also started selling the latest range of 5G enabled mobile phones and HTC 5G WiFi Hub which you can bundle with its 5G smart monthly plans.
Smart monthly plans come with various usage limits (10GB / 50GB / 60GB / 100GB / Unlimited) and monthly price varies between £64 and £84 . Upfront cost and 24 month contract length apply.

Vodafone switched on its 5G network in early July 2019 and currently its ultra-fast mobile service is available in 34 cities including Birkenhead, Birmingham, Bolton, Bristol, Cardiff, Gatwick, Glasgow, Lancaster, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newbury, Plymouth, Stoke-on-Trent and Wolverhampton.

Vodafone continues to upgrade 5G roaming coverage and use the new, more efficient MORAN (Multi-Operator Radio Access Network) technology to improve connectivity in these cities.
Vodafone offers 5G enabled phones such as Samsung Galaxy A90, Huawei 20 X and Samsung Galaxy Note 10+. Data plans include 5GB and 20GB and Unlimited options. All monthly plans include free roaming in 48 destinations and three month Secure Net. Unlimited plans offer 100 EU minutes for no extra cost.
Vodafone GigaCube is the wireless router which can connect up to 64 devices to 5G and 4G networks. It’s available monthly plans which come with 100GB, 200GB and unlimited data options. Prices start from £30. Upfront cost and 18 month contract length apply. Alternatively, you can choose 30 day contract which includes hefty upfront cost.
Three launched its 5G service on 19th August 2019, by switching on the ultra-fast mobile network in selected cities across the UK.
25 cities had been chosen for Three’s 5G roll out in 2019. They include London, Birmingham, Bolton, Bradford, Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff, Coventry, Derby, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Hull, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester, Middlesbrough, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Reading, Rotherham, Sheffield, Slough, Sunderland and Wolverhampton.
Three offers 5G with pay monthly phones, SIM only plans and wireless home broadband.
Upfront cost and contract length apply to pay monthly 5G phones and prices start from £43 a month.

O2 launched 5G on 17th October 2019. It offers 5G in selected areas including Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London, Slough and Leeds.
O2 has, so far rolled out 5G in 20 UK cities and aims to extend it to 60 cities including Windsor, Eton, Reading, Blackpool, Bournemouth and Guildford by summer 2020.
